Tranquilo Bay is your home base to explore the islands and highlands of Western Panama. Our guests unpack, settle in, and experience our unique tropical location in the rainforest overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Tranquilo Bay provides you with six deluxe air-conditioned cabanas, beautiful views, adventure activities, personal attention, and fine cuisine.

Bocas del Toro, Panama includes an archipelago of some 68 tropical islands that are excellent for beach combing, birding and exploring. Around the many reefs and lagoons you may fish, snorkel and surf. There are also beautiful spots perfect for just laying back and letting the breeze wash over you.

Tranquilo Bay is an owner-operated eco adventure lodge located on Isla Bastimentos, Bocas del Toro, Panama adjacent to Bastimentos National Marine Park. We have over a kilometer of Caribbean coastline covered in coral gardens teaming with tropical fish. Our facilities encompass over 100 acres, with over a mile of hiking trails full of wildlife. At least 75% of the acreage has been left to evolve in its natural state.

Tranquilo Bay is centrally located amongst the most biologically diverse and protected areas in Panama and Central America. We explore these areas from the comfort of their facility and often cross three or more ecosystems in a single excursion. Our biologist guides use hiking, sea kayaking and snorkeling to explore the diverse range of habitats in the area making Tranquilo Bay perfect for the avid adventurer as well as those looking to get away from “real” life for a few days.

Accommodations

Tranquilo Bay strives to provide you with very comfortable accommodations and delicious food throughout your stay with us.

Each cabana features a spacious tiled interior with French doors opening to a large, covered elevated porch area. They each have a large bathroom with a walk-in shower. Each cabana has its own water heater and air conditioner. Three cabanas have queen size orthopedic beds and the other three have two double orthopedic beds. Each cabana is tastefully and comfortably appointed with locally handcrafted furniture. Hammocks and comfortable Adirondack chairs on each porch allow our guests to relax and enjoy the view.

Meals and drinks at Tranquilo Bay are included with each of our packages. Breakfast offerings may include a continental buffet, your choice of eggs and one special breakfast entree each day. Lunch will be packed for those guests whose activities keep them away from the resort. For those remaining on site a variety of soups, salads and sandwiches are available. Appetizers are provided during the cocktail hour preceding dinner. Dinners vary based upon the local ingredients available; however you should expect three or four delicious courses each night.

National Parks & Marine Preserves

The province of Bocas del Toro hosts two national parks, one of which is a world heritage site. One park, Bastimentos National Marine Park, covers a large portion of the archipelago and is home to a variety of ecosystems that thrive at or around sea level. Our expeditions into the parks are designed to cover a diverse range of ecosystems and terrain and can be tailored to meet your group's areas of interest, experience and physical abilities. Guests feel like part of the family at Tranquilo Bay.

Tranquilo Bay is fortunate to have an incredible number of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. We can tailor your trip if you have a particular activity that you would like to experience. Certain activities like surfing and fishing are seasonal, so let us know what your interests are prior to booking your trip.

Activities

Beaches - it is possible to visit a different beach every day during your stay.

Birding - Panama has over 900 recorded bird species, more than the US and Canada combined. We have access to almost 200 directly from Tranquilo Bay.

Snorkeling - the oceanic diversity, sub-sea topography, marine ecosystems and species are extreme.

Jungle Hiking - walking through the jungle is a surreal and vivid experience. Our excursions allow you to truly experience the jungle.

Kayaking - Our excursions are designed to cover an array of ecosystems, terrain, marine and terrestrial wild life.

Surfing - when the swells arrive Bocas has some of the best waves and variety of breaks in the Caribbean.

Fishing - The Bocas del Toro archipelago has world-class fishing.

Relaxation - whether you are curled up in a hammock, sunning on our dock or reading in our library, you will be sure to relax on this vacation like no other.
